A Love for Stories Awakens
The journey to my love for reading was neither straightforward nor expected. It wasn't until the birth of my first child, between those middle of the night and wee hour feeding, that I discovered the mesmerizing world of books. The book that changed everything was a mystery romance novel from my mother's collection. Initially I picked it up as a way to pass the time, I quickly became enthralled in its world. That night, lost in the pages, a passion was kindled that transformed into both refuge and inspiration. Reading became more than a pastime; it became a calling. Stories, with their power to transport and transform, guided me towards my future in writing and storytelling. This newfound love was a light in the darkness, showing me the path to my true passion.
The Journey Through Higher Education
My educational path was as winding as it was enlightening. Following high school, my aspirations led me to North Harris County College in Houston, TX, where I initially pursued a nursing degree. However, life’s unpredictable nature and the choice to start a family shifted my focus, leading me to pause my academic pursuits. Yet, the flame of knowledge burned brightly within me, and I later embraced the opportunity to dive into Information Technology and Visual Communication at the University of Phoenix. This was just the beginning though. My hunger for learning propelled me further to achieve a Bachelor of Science in Communication, with a focus on communication and technology, and a Master of Arts in Education, specializing in adult education and training. Each step on this academic journey added layers to my understanding and skills, preparing me and equipping me even more for the diverse roles I was already embracing as an author, chaplain, educator, and CEO of an NPO.
Embracing Diverse Fields of Study
My thirst for knowledge did not confine itself to traditional academic pursuits. Instead, I ventured into various fields, collecting certifications that ranged from a Licensed Emergency Medical Technician, Special Skills, then Paramedic, Certified Life Coach to a Certified Restorative Therapist. Each certification was a step towards personal growth and a testament to my belief in the importance of lifelong learning. These diverse areas of study were not mere achievements but milestones that reflected my journey of personal and professional development, embodying my philosophy that learning knows no bounds.
A Calling to Serve: Ministry and Beyond
In 1993, a significant shift occurred in my life when I injured my spine while saving a life. During those next few years of recovery, I answered a calling to ministry. This journey led me to ministry school, culminating in my ordination as an Ordained Minister and a certified Chaplain. Over the past 30 years, my commitment to serving others has been unwavering. This spiritual path has offered me not just a career but a life’s mission, filled with both challenges and fulfillment. Serving in ministry has allowed me to touch lives in profound ways, reinforcing my belief in the power of faith, miracles, compassion, and community.
Overcoming Obstacles: A Testament to Resilience
Throughout my life, ADHD and dyslexia have been constant companions, presenting challenges that at times seemed insurmountable. However, these obstacles became steppingstones, each one an opportunity to discover strength and strategies to not just cope but thrive. My journey is a testament to resilience, a reminder that difficulties do not define us but rather refine us. These experiences have taught me the value of perseverance, adaptation, patience with myself and others, and the power of a positive outlook.
Continuous Growth: The Never-Ending Journey
My story is one of continuous evolution, with each day presenting new opportunities for growth, learning, and making a difference. The challenges I’ve faced and the victories I’ve celebrated have shown me that our greatest weaknesses can become our most profound strengths. This journey of education and personal development is ongoing, a perpetual adventure that I continually embrace with open arms.
Conclusion: A Life Lived in Pursuit of Knowledge and Service
Reflecting on the path I’ve traveled, my heart is filled with gratitude for the many lessons I have learned, all the obstacles I overcame, and the incredible people who have shared this journey with me. My life’s story is one of ceaseless learning, heartfelt service, and the unwavering power of faith and perseverance. It stands as a testimony to others, illustrating that the journey of education is not merely about the accumulation of knowledge but about the transformation we undergo and the impact we make along the way.
