Author Interview with Cindy Hyde
Q: What was your motivation for writing this book?
ANSWER: It's really pretty simple. I wrote A Workbook for Writers Who Want to Be an Author or Authorpreneur because I wanted to write a book. I have a master's degree in education, adult education and training specifically. I had research skills, and I had the ability to put what I was leaning about writing books into a book. I knew if I was struggling as a writer, other writers may be having the same struggles. The writer's workbook was created.
After I finished the entire writing process, which included organizing the materials, compiling it into the sequence it needed to be in, editing, formatting (which was not that easy to do), what am I saying... none of it was easy! Then self-publishing was another big hurdle. I managed to learn it all.
Then I end up with a book on Amazon.com. A very proud moment. The excitement of the accomplishment didn't last that long because I realized if the book was going to sell I had to learn to market the book too.
That made me research and learn how to market a book. As I went on that particular journey I took massive amounts of notes, again! Then compiled them into the book and titled it Creating Five Income Streams from Your Printed Book. Learn how to sell your printed book and make money. There is no reason to have a published book and not sell it. It's hard, but over the years I just got complacent with the books and did nothing to promote them. Today, I've created businesses because of the expertise I have gained in the book industry.
Both of the writing books were written out of my own need to write, publish and sell my own book(s).
Q: Have you written other books since then?
ANSWER: Yes, I have written 15 books, 7 are on Amazon. Some I seriously self-published on my own. My first book was A Woman of Acts, second was Flames of Change. Both were Biblical studies on how to become a woman after God's heart, the other how to change the things in your life that needed to be changed. Both were good but I didn't do anything with them beyond use them at church.
The hardest book I have written is External Scars from Internal Wounds. That book wrenched my heart and was birthed out the most severe trauma I had ever experienced in my entire life. I received a call one day from my son's stepmother. She said, "Cindy, Shawn slit his throat!" I thought I heard her wrong and made her tell me again. She repeated it again. I cannot explain because I simply do not have words to tell you how deep her words sank into my soul. It was like hot molten lava sunning through my heart. I could barely breathe. No one knew where the helicopter took him. It was a while before we found where they took him and learned that he survived. I would not wish that kind of deep emotional pain on my worst enemy!
The Lord literally spoke to my heart and said write your story. Help others with it. Not only did I tell my story, my son's story, but other stories of suicide survivors, and those who attempted to take their life and were so happy they survived. I also share the story of my brother hanging himself on Easter morning!
Q: Do You have plans for more books?
ANSWER: I know there are many more books in me. Time is an issue when you're busy helping everyone else write and publish their books. But yes! My current passion is writing and illustrating children's books for my 28 grandchildren! I have published one already. Remington and Trenton In the Big Green Forest: Teamwork saves the berries.
